The problem

Two scripts. One workflow — still broken.

Three decades of Odia publishing live in legacy Akruti fonts, while the modern web runs on Unicode. Bridging them shouldn’t be this hard.

Archives locked in legacy fonts

Years of books, notifications and gazettes exist only in Akruti encoding. Moving them to modern tools means manual, error-prone retyping.

Online converters can’t be trusted

Web tools upload your documents to unknown servers, break conjuncts and matras, and fail the moment the internet drops.

Modern software ignores legacy fonts

Operating systems and design tools dropped legacy-font support years ago — leaving presses and offices stranded on aging machines.

Features

Everything a DTP desk needs. Nothing it doesn’t.

Shipped in v1.0.0 “Sarala” — every feature refined with working Odia publishing professionals.

Unicode ⇄ Akruti conversion

High-accuracy bidirectional conversion that correctly handles conjuncts, matras and vowel signs in both directions.

Live conversion while typing

Output updates instantly with every keystroke. Paste, type, or drag — the result is always one glance away.

Drag & drop, copy & export

Drop text or files straight into Lipika, copy results with one click, or download the converted text as a file.

Fully offline & private

All processing happens locally. No internet required after activation, no telemetry, and sensitive documents never leave your machine.

Fast, accurate engine

A lean conversion core converts full pages in milliseconds with consistently high accuracy across text types.

Modern desktop experience

Light & dark themes, keyboard shortcuts, persistent settings and character, word & line counters — all in one clean interface.

How it works

From install to publication in four steps

Convert

The conversion runs instantly on-device. Verify the output side-by-side, with live character, word and line counts.

Use anywhere

Copy the result into InDesign, Word, or your press workflow — or download it as a text file for archiving.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Internet is required only once for initial licence activation. After that, Lipika is fully offline — conversion, settings, and exports all run locally on your machine.
Akruti is a legacy font-based encoding system widely used for Indian languages before Unicode matured. Huge archives of Odia books, forms and notifications still exist only in Akruti, which is why reliable conversion remains essential.
Yes. Lipika converts both directions — Unicode Odia to Akruti and Akruti to Unicode — following the standard Odia Unicode block.
Across our test corpus of books, gazettes and office documents, v1.0.0 achieves approximately 99.4% character-level accuracy. We always recommend a quick proofread for publication-critical material.
Yes. The free trial is limited to evaluation; a Professional licence (monthly, yearly, or lifetime) covers commercial use including client work, publishing and government projects.
Additional font support is on our roadmap as “Planned”. v1.0.0 focuses on doing Akruti conversion exceptionally well before expanding.
After purchase you receive a licence key by email. Open Lipika → Settings → Licence, paste the key, and click Activate. Activation requires internet once; afterwards the app works fully offline.
New versions are published on the Download page with full release notes. Since Lipika is offline-first, you download and install updates manually — no silent background changes.
Yes — that’s a core audience. Lipika sends zero data anywhere after activation, runs on Windows 7 SP1+, and institutional licences are available for multi-seat deployments.
Never. Text you paste into Lipika is processed in memory and never written to disk or transmitted. When you close the app, it’s gone.
